Whether you like Jordan Peterson or think he is a monster, you have to wonder why he has risen to the international stage as a trusted voice of reason. I personally had not heard of him until a few years ago and, although it was quite by accident and I had no idea who he was, you can't deny that his words and statements, backed by often long explanations, are compelling. One of those lectures he introduced a true story written by someone who survived the horrors following the Bolsheviks seizing power in Russia.
No one can express the horrors of group think and the dark side of the herd better than Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, in his book, "The Gulag Archipelago". It’s an accurate depiction of evil and how the herd's true nature is to decimate humanity while at the same time claim that it's saving it. It's the current road map for civilization unless a single event causes humans to wake up and begin to question themselves and the world they live in.
Some have called humanity parasitic and others compared it to a voracious organism that devours everything in it's path. The herd acts like a virus whose only goal is to spread itself to all reaches of the world. It enforces power and forces everyone to abandon their true nature and worship the group. This will take place, just as it has been since the beginning of time, until there is none left.
The herd does not control itself and there will always be someone doing the herding. Without diversity of thought, there is no future.
